Third molars eruptive disorders: Frequency and therapeutic choice

Farida Ammouche

The eruption of the 3rd molars is often disturbed due to a lack of space on the dentoalveolar arches. But is their extraction always indicated? These are the last teeth to erupt around the age of 18, but their development is already done from the teenage years. They are visible on x-rays in the form of germs and at this stage it is already possible to note the presence of a rash problem. Signs of posterior crowding and the inclination of their axis allow the practitioner to make a diagnosis. In orthodontics, the third molars are taken into account in the treatment. They are extracted in most cases. They condition the choice to extract in the case of dental crowding or distalization of the 2nd molars and of the 1st molars in order to create space. In addition, the 3rd molars are often implicated in relapse of incisor crowding.
What exactly is it among our patients?

In order to answer this question, an assessment of the frequency of eruption of wisdom teeth disorders as well as the indications to extract or not these teeth is necessary. A retrospective study of clinical patient records is used, based in particular on the observation of panoramic radiographs.
